House­rules

Coats, bags, hats and umbrellas

You can store your coat, bag, hat and the like in our cloakroom free of charge. There you will also find lockers for valuables. You may bring small bags inside. Large bags, backpacks and umbrellas can cause damage to the works on display and may therefore not be brought into the museum.

Food and drink

You are not allowed to eat or drink in the museum. Packets of drinks or snacks for children are also not allowed. You are welcome to enjoy a snack and a drink at our museum café Reina.

Photography and filming

Feel free to take photos and videos for personal use, but please do not use flash. Professional photographers should register in advance. Please respect the privacy of other visitors and do not take photos or videos of them without their permission.

Distance to the works of art

We understand that it can be very tempting to take a closer look. However, please keep at least 30 centimetres away from the artworks and do not touch them unless stated otherwise. We trust you to take care and help prevent damage to the artworks or the building.

Noise levels

Our exhibition spaces are places where visitors can take their time to look at and experience art. To help create a calm atmosphere, phone calls are not allowed in the exhibition spaces. Of course, we encourage you to talk with others about the works on display, but please be considerate of other visitors.

Drawing and writing

Feel free to write or draw in the exhibition spaces, but please use pencils only. Pens and felt-tip pens are not allowed. Please do not use walls, floors, signs or artworks as a surface to write or draw on. Clipboards are available to borrow from the reception desk if needed.

Accessibility aids

The museum is fully accessible for visitors using a wheelchair, a small mobility scooter (no larger than 120 cm x 70 cm x 109 cm), or another mobility aid used at walking speed. We may ask visitors to show that they can operate their mobility aid safely. Any exceptions during a specific exhibition, for example because of limited space, will be mentioned on the museum website. Prams and pushchairs are also allowed.

Access with a large mobility scooter is limited. For the exhibition spaces, you can use one of our wheelchairs. The museum has two wheelchairs available to borrow, which can be reserved in advance. One companion may enter free of charge. If you need a different accessibility solution, please contact us and we will be happy to discuss the options with you.

Children and young people

Children are very welcome in our museum! When accompanied by an adult aged 18 or over, they can discover art and culture with us. Children may not always be familiar with museum rules or understand why it is important not to touch artworks. We therefore kindly ask accompanying adults to help explain these rules and support children during their visit. Running and rough play are not allowed in the exhibition spaces.

Smoking

Smoking, vaping and the use of e-cigarettes are not allowed anywhere inside the museum, including the museum café, toilets, rooftop terrace and entrance area. Smoking is only permitted on the terrace of museum café Reina.

Pets

With the exception of assistance dogs, pets are not allowed in the exhibition spaces.

Safety and security

You visit the museum at your own responsibility. Objects that could pose a risk to other visitors or to our collection are not allowed. For everyone’s safety, we reserve the right to inspect bags and other items.

E-bike batteries

For fire safety reasons, e-bike batteries are not allowed inside the museum building.

A final note

Part of our museum building is free to visit, while an admission fee applies to the exhibition spaces. We use an admission sticker as proof of payment. Museum staff may ask you to show your admission sticker at any time during your visit.

Visitors who do not follow the museum’s house rules may be asked to leave.
