How can we create more nature in our living environment? And how can we involve local residents in making this happen? In the summer of 2021, museum van Bommel van Dam and Odapark invited nine artists and designers to explore new ways of making the region greener. Each of them developed a plan, which was carried out at various locations in the municipalities of Venlo and Venray.

New Nature

Climate adaptation and sustainability challenges require us to look at our surroundings in a different way. Creating more green space can play an important role in this in several ways. More room for nature helps reduce heat stress, stores water during heavy rainfall, filters fine particles from the air and supports biodiversity. Green spaces in the neighbourhood also help people relax and improve their wellbeing.

More nature around us therefore offers many benefits. But how can plants and trees be added to a busy city centre, a car park or a business park? And how can local residents, visitors and businesses be involved in creating new nature in their surroundings? With this project, we want to explore the possibilities, try out different approaches and offer inspiration for the future.

Walking and cycling routes

All art and design projects can be visited from Saturday 10 September to Sunday 2 October, either independently or with a guide. In the municipality of Venlo, three locations are connected by a cycling route and three other locations by a walking route. In Venray, one cycling route connects all three locations in the municipality.

For visitors who prefer to explore on their own, each outdoor project has a QR code with more information. For those who would rather join a guided visit, museum van Bommel van Dam and Odapark offer a free programme with a guide for four weekends in a row.

The walking route through Venlo city centre starts every Saturday and Sunday at 14:00, and the cycling routes through the municipalities of Venlo and Venray start every Sunday at 14:00. Click here for more information.
