Global Goals Market
In 2024, the museum worked with versatile and critical artist Agata Siwek (Poland, 1972) on an activist project centred around the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the 17 sustainability goals of the United Nations. Together with a group of young people, she was invited to take part in the Sustainability Market in Venlo, an initiative by Stichting Wereldwinkel Venlo and Jongerenkerk Venlo that encourages visitors to take action for the Global Goals.
During the project, the participants became aware of the tension between the idea of a market, with stalls and unnecessary products, and the wish to encourage people to consume less. They responded to this tension creatively, developing a solution that offered a thought-provoking perspective on the challenges of sustainability. “Do you really need it?”
