Collectie Museum van Bommel van Dam Venlo 2011

The spectacular donation of over a thousand works of art in 1969 by Maarten and Reina van Bommel-van Dam led to the opening of the first museum of modern art in Venlo: Museum van Bommel van Dam. On 16 October 2011 the museum celebrates its fortieth anniversary. This is to be celebrated with the exhibition Through Other Eyes, a new website and a new sizeable publication about the collection.

In this 512 page, multi-lingual publication (Dutch, German, English, French) you’ll find, alongside popular works from the collection of Maarten and Reina van Bommel-van Dam, long term loans from the Foundation van Bommel van Dam as well as important acquisitions from directors and curators over the last 40 years.

The publication Collection Museum van Bommel van Dam Venlo 2011 – A Selection of Forty Years of Collecting will be distributed mid 2011 amongst other museums in the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Germany, Switzerland and Denmark. This new analog survey of the collection will hopefully – together with a balanced combination of a good digital accessibility of the collection – contribute to the general appreciation as well as an increased professional knowledge of the multifaceted art collection of themunicipality ofVenlo. At the same time this publication ideally opens the perspective of  future (inter)national loans. All works in the city collection, amongst which there are many South-East Dutch top talents, are without exception available for loans for exhibitions. This has been a highly desirable route for many generations of Dutch artists, amongst whom many young painters, draughtsmen and photographers.

In the course of 2012 Museum van Bommel van Dam will publish a second publication in exactly the same format, in which the general history from 1971 will be covered, including storage, exhibition spaces, exhibitions and publications, the winners of the Van Bommel Van Dam prize as well as the collections donated since 2005 by Pieter Defesche, Jef Diederen, Marianne van der Heijden and the double donation of Tijmen and Helen Knecht-Drenth.
